So I followed a recipe I found on Pinterest for homemade wipes. I've done this with my first born about 8 years ago using a recipe I found from the Melaleuca Wellness Book. It ended up smelling a lot like a bathroom cleaner so I decided not to use it as baby wipes. Then I tried another recipe that I found in one of the Duggar's books, but that solution felt a little too greasy to me, I think it was equal parts of baby wash and baby oil. When I started getting into essential oils with DoTerra, I tried yet another recipe for baby wipes and it too proved to have a very greasy feeling. With my new found activity with Pinterest, I decided to try it again. I tweaked the recipe I found by cutting the coconut oil in half.
This is the recipe I used: 2 1/4 c. distilled water, 2 tbsp lavender pure - castile soap, 1/2 tbsp coconut oil, 1/2 tsp baking soda(to prevent mildew), and 5 drops of lavender EO. I used the VIVA brand paper towels as recommended.
The smell was heavenly, very easy to mix, but when I pulled the wipes out, it felt very greasy and soapy to me. Disappointed yet again. I thought about adding more water to dilute the soapiness but then there would still be the greasy feel. My DD1 tried it and absolutely loved it. I use baby wipes for everything, from wiping baby's bottoms, cleaning hands and feet and faces, wiping down tables, getting fresh stains out of clothes when we're eating out, etc you name it, if it needs to be wiped, I use the baby wipes. I currently use the Kirkland brand wipes, which I love, but the cost is getting higher and my family is growing. I would really love to try another recipe that doesn't have the greasy feeling afterward.
